Introduction - What Is Tactical Minimalism?
Welcome to post 1 of "Tactical Minimalism," an exploration of how to facilitate the widest range of game systems with a limited model count, through specific choices in modelling and army list construction.
Initially the focus will be on 4 systems, with an aim to expand that out where possible with minimal investment in extra models.
It is entirely possible that with a different army choice that these numbers can be brought down, however as I've chosen an Imperial Guard(/Astra Militarum) force this is the minimum I was able to achieve while still creating viable forces.
All the forces will also be representative of some section of a single force, namely an Inquisitorial warband - to this end the forces (i.e. the Necromunda Warband) will all be representative rather than being strictly what their listing is.
For example:
- Imperial Guard Veterans in the combat patrol will be representative of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers
- An Orlock Warband (for the starting weapon choices) will be representative of an Inquisitorial Warband on-Planet
- The IQ28 warband will... Obviously be an Inquisitorial Warband.
The models will be made and painted in order to increase in size and make up the numbers for the next sized warband to facilitate quick entry into play, so for example the IQ28 warband will fully be made and painted, and then the required models to increase it in size to the Necromunda warband will be constructed and made, then upgrading to the Kill Team, and so on.
Posts will focus not only on the practicals of painting and modelling, but initially will also explore the planning and preparation stages.
See you in the next post!
